Is Fitbit Waterproof? Comparing the Water Resistance of Fitbit Models

Many people use the Fitbit wearables to track their sleep patterns, stress levels, and daily activities.

What if you prefer swimming as your workout? For a Fitbit to track all your swimming efforts, it has to be able to withstand more than just a splash.

To make it easier for you, we’ve done the research to uncover the best Fitbit for swimming laps or running in the rain.

Fitbit Doesn’t Use IP Ratings

You may have seen an IP rating on certain devices, such as smartphones, smartwatches, or headphones. IP ratings are typically displayed with “IP” followed by two numbers.

Consumers can use this IP rating to determine whether a device is a dust- or water-resistant. IP ratings measure solids resistance, such as dust and dirt, while liquid resistance, such as water, is measured by the second digit.

Smartwatches with IP ratings, such as Apple Watches and Samsung Galaxy Watches, are becoming increasingly popular. Since Fitbit doesn’t provide IP ratings for any of its products, consumers are left wondering how to determine whether a device can be submerged.

Wearables from Fitbit don’t have an IP rating, which is not clear why.

Fitbit’s reasoning may be influenced by the fact that it costs manufacturers money to test their devices and obtain IP ratings, but this has not been confirmed. According to the company, water sports are not recommended for all devices, and some should be avoided.

Is the Fitbit Sense Waterproof?

In addition to tracking physical and mental health, the Fitbit Sense can also track a variety of other data. Swim tracking is even available if you prefer to sweat in the pool.

Even though Fitbit Sense does not have an official IP rating, the company claims it is water-resistant up to 50 meters. It won’t matter if you spill a drink on it or want to swim laps on it! You can prolong the life of your Fitbit by rinsing it off with fresh water and letting it dry completely before reattaching it.

Is the Fitbit Charge 4 Waterproof?

In common with many Fitbit products, the Fitbit Charge 4 does not feature a waterproof case. However, it can withstand water depths of up to 50 meters. As well as Charge 3 and Charge 5, there is no difference.

A Water Lock feature on the Fitbit Charge 5 prevents accidental tapping on the screen while submerged. For some Fitbit models, including the Charge 5, you can manually activate this feature when it detects water.

How Waterproof Is the Fitbit Inspire 2?

Despite not being waterproof, the Fitbit Inspire 2 is water-resistant up to 50 meters, enough protection to swim laps in the pool or wash dishes accidentally.

With the Inspire 2, you can lock your water while you’re in the water automatically or manually. This prevents accidental taps while you’re swimming. Check out whether Galaxy S22 is waterproof or not.
